The sovereignty of God is
the biblical truth that
God reigns as the supreme King
over all creation.
He exercises absolute authority,
accomplishing His will in heaven and on earth
according to His own purpose and pleasure.
Nothing exists outside His rule,
and no power can ultimately thwart His plans.
Scripture consistently presents God as the sovereign ruler of all things:
From creation to final judgment, the Bible portrays God as actively governing history.
The sovereignty of God means that:
God’s throne is the central biblical symbol of this sovereignty. He reigns, and His kingdom rules over all.
The Bible holds God’s sovereignty and human responsibility together without contradiction. People make real choices and are accountable for them, yet God remains the One who works all things according to the counsel of His will. Scripture does not resolve this tension by diminishing either truth; both are affirmed.
God’s sovereignty is especially displayed in salvation:
The same sovereign God who rules over all creation is the God who saves by grace through faith.
