Those who hold the testimony of Jesus are willing to suffer for His name, and they conquer the accuser by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.

From the beginning of the church the apostles were witnesses of Jesus. They testified to what they had seen and heard: His life, His death, His resurrection, and the salvation that is in His name. John writes that he bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ. The brothers who were slain for the word of God and for the testimony they held are seen under the altar. The dragon makes war on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. When John falls at the feet of the angel, he is told, “Worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” The testimony is therefore both the content of the gospel and the ongoing witness of the church. It is not a private opinion. It is the public confession that Jesus is Lord, the record God has given concerning His Son, and the word by which the saints overcome.
