The Word of the Kingdom is the message Jesus identified as the seed in the parable of the sower.
When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart.
It is the gospel of the kingdom—the announcement that God’s reign has drawn near in Jesus the King.
The same word that is snatched from the path bears fruit a hundredfold in good soil.
Jesus interpreted His own parable.
- Matthew says the sower sows is the word of the kingdom.
- Mark says the sower sows the word.
- Luke says the seed is the word of God.
Together the three Gospels show that the word of the kingdom is the word of God concerning the reign of God in Christ.
Jesus came into Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
That is the seed.
It is not a vague spiritual saying. It is the announcement of the King and the call to repent and believe.
- Some hear and do not understand.
- Some receive it with joy and fall away.
- Some let cares and riches choke it.
- Some hear, understand, hold it fast, and bear fruit.
The word of the kingdom is therefore both the content of Jesus’ preaching and the living seed by which the kingdom takes root in human hearts.

The seed is the word of the kingdom. Jesus named it Himself. It is the gospel that the King has come near, that sinners must repent and believe, and that the reign of God is present in the Son. The word is sown widely. The evil one snatches. Trouble scorches. Cares and riches choke. Yet in good soil the same word bears fruit—thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold. Hear the word of the kingdom. Understand it. Hold it fast. Do not let it be snatched, scorched, or crowded out. This gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations. Let it take root in you.
