The Reign of Christ is the sovereign rule of the risen and exalted Lord Jesus over all creation,
already exercised from the right hand of God and destined for open, universal manifestation.
It began with His resurrection and ascension,
continues through the present age as He reigns until every enemy is put under His feet,
and will be displayed in fullness when He returns in glory.
Scripture presents this reign as
both a present reality and a future hope:
Christ is already King of kings,
yet the day is coming when every knee will bow
and every tongue confess that He is Lord.
The church lives under His present reign
and looks for the day when the kingdom of the world
becomes the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ.
After making purification for sins, Jesus sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. From that place of highest authority He reigns. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him. He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet; the last enemy to be destroyed is death. The New Testament therefore speaks of Christ’s reign as already underway: He is far above every rule and authority and power and dominion; He is the head of the church and the ruler of the kings of the earth. At the same time Scripture looks forward to the open and final display of that reign, when the seventh trumpet sounds and loud voices in heaven declare that the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever. The saints who share in the first resurrection will reign with Him. The reign of Christ is the fulfillment of the promises made to David, the answer to the prayer “Your kingdom come,” and the goal toward which all history moves.

Therefore live under His present lordship. Seek first His kingdom. Endure as those who know the King is on the throne. The day is coming when every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Of His kingdom there will be no end.
