Power Came Out from Him is Luke’s and Mark’s description of what happened when the afflicted touched Jesus.
Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.”
The crowd pressed around Him, but only the touch of faith drew power from His person.
He is not a reservoir that can be emptied. He is the Holy One from whom life goes forth and makes the broken well.
When the woman with the flow of blood touched the fringe of His garment, Jesus immediately perceived in Himself that power had gone out from Him. He asked who touched Him. Peter saw only the multitude pressing in. Jesus knew the difference between a crowd and a touch of faith. Luke also writes that all the crowd sought to touch Him, for power came out from Him and healed them all. The Gospels do not treat this power as an impersonal force Jesus happened to carry. It is the power of God present in the Son. He heals by His will, His word, and His touch. Sometimes He speaks and the sick rise. Sometimes He lays His hands on them. Sometimes a trembling hand reaches His cloak and power goes out. In every case the source is the same: the Lord Himself. The incarnation means that the power of God has come near enough to touch.

Someone touched Me, for I perceive that power has gone out from Me. The crowd pressed. One touched. Jesus knew the difference. Power came out from Him and healed. It still does not reside in relics or formulas. It resides in the living Christ. Come in faith. Reach for Him. The Lord who felt power go out in the press of the crowd is not too distant to know your touch and not too poor to heal. The power of the Lord was with Him to heal, and the same Jesus upholds all things by the word of His power. Take heart. Your faith has to do with a Person from whom life itself goes forth.
