Light for the Nations is the title God gave His Servant in Isaiah:
I will make you as a light for the nations,
that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth.
Simeon took the child Jesus in his arms and said that he had seen God’s salvation,
a light for revelation to the Gentiles and glory for Israel.
Paul and Barnabas applied the same word to their mission:
the Lord commanded them to be a light for the Gentiles.
Christ is the Light of the world,
and in Him the blessing promised to the nations has come.
Israel was called to be a witness among the nations, yet the prophets saw that the Servant of the Lord would do what the nation had failed to do. God would give Him as a covenant for the people and a light for the nations, to open blind eyes and to bring prisoners out of darkness. His salvation would not stop at the borders of Israel. It would reach the end of the earth. When Mary and Joseph brought the infant Jesus to the temple, Simeon, waiting for the consolation of Israel, took Him up and blessed God. His eyes had seen the salvation prepared in the presence of all peoples: light for the Gentiles, glory for Israel. Years later, when the synagogue in Pisidian Antioch rejected the word, Paul and Barnabas turned to the Gentiles with Isaiah’s commission on their lips. The light for the nations is first the Messiah Himself. Then those who belong to Him carry that light to the end of the earth.

I will make you as a light for the nations, that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth. That word is spoken of the Servant, and it is fulfilled in Jesus. Simeon saw it in the child. Paul took it as a command to go to the Gentiles. The Light of the world still shines, and the darkness has not overcome it. Do not hide the light. Carry it. The nations are to come to His light. The city to come will need no sun, for the Lamb is its lamp, and by His light the nations will walk. Arise, shine. Your light has come.
