In writing to Titus, Paul describes the grace of God that has appeared, bringing salvation and training believers to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions. That same grace teaches them to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, “waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” The blessed hope is therefore not a vague optimism but the concrete expectation of Christ’s visible return. It is called “blessed” because it brings the fullness of every promise—resurrection, reunion, reward, the end of suffering, and the open reign of the King. Therefore live in light of the blessed hope. Renounce ungodliness. Pursue self-control, uprightness, and godliness. Comfort one another with the promise of His coming. And join the final prayer of Scripture: “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!” The One who has promised is faithful. The blessed hope will not disappoint.
