Deliverance is the saving act of God by which He rescues people from bondage, danger, sin, and the power of the enemy.
In Scripture it includes rescue from Egypt, from enemies, from sin and death, and from the oppression of unclean spirits.
The greatest deliverance is accomplished through Jesus Christ, who gave Himself to deliver us from the present evil age and to destroy the works of the devil.
Those who belong to Christ have been delivered from the domain of darkness and transferred into the kingdom of God’s beloved Son.
The God of the Bible is a God who delivers. He heard the cry of Israel in Egypt and brought them out with a mighty hand. The psalmists called Him the God of their salvation who delivered them from all their fears. The prophets promised a greater deliverance through the coming Redeemer. Jesus came announcing liberty to the captives and setting free those who were oppressed by the devil. He cast out unclean spirits, forgave sins, and gave His life as a ransom. After the resurrection the apostles proclaimed that God had delivered them from the domain of darkness and that everyone who believes in Jesus receives forgiveness of sins and freedom. Deliverance is therefore both a past event—accomplished at the cross and applied at conversion—and an ongoing work as the Lord continues to rescue His people from temptation, bondage, and the schemes of the enemy. The final deliverance will be the redemption of the body and the destruction of the last enemy, death.

Everyone who belongs to Christ has already been delivered from the domain of darkness and transferred into the kingdom of the beloved Son. That deliverance is complete in its foundation and continues in daily rescue from temptation, fear, and the enemy. The Lord will deliver His people from every evil deed and bring them safely into His heavenly kingdom. Therefore cry to Him. Stand in the victory of the cross. Command what must leave in the name of Jesus Christ. And rest in the One who has already delivered you and will deliver you again. The final deliverance is certain: death itself will be destroyed, and the redeemed will be home.
